Rename the Recycle Bin Access

You can normally rename all the icons and folders on your desktop by right clicking the item and selecting "Rename".   Unfortunately, this cannot be done with the Recycle Bin. Follow the instructions below to rename it.

Pick Your Name !

The first thing you should do before trying to edit the registry is make a backup. You can use the free  Registry Editor Plus program found by clicking on the "Cool Files" link above and left. If you choose not to use the program, open the  registry by clicking- START>RUN. Type in REGEDIT. This will bring up the Windows registry editor.

Click on REGISTRY>EXPORT REGISTRY FILE. For the file name, type in today's date then click SAVE*.

Navigate to the key (left pane) [note: It's easiest if you click EDIT>FIND and then copy/paste this line into the box.] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF40-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}. Find the (default) value in the right-hand pane and double-click it. The data for this value should be "Recycle Bin". Change this name to whatever you like.

Close the registry editor and any programs you have running. Press F5 on the keyboard and your new name will appear.

*  If you screw-up the registry (your computer won't boot right), you can restore it by starting the computer in Safe Mode, browsing to My Documents and double-clicking the file.
